History of Sister City
The sister city cooperation between the City of Yogyakarta, Republic of Indonesia -
and the City of Hluboka nad Vltavou began with the existence of the “Bohemia House – Cesky Dum” located in Kampung Dipowinatan, Yogyakarta City. This house belongs to Mr. Marsito Merto, a resident of Yogyakarta City who studied and lived in Czechoslovakia during the old order era.
The relationship between the two cities has been escalated during the tenure of the Czech Republic Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Jaroslav Dolecek and the Republic of Indonesia Ambassador to the Czech Republic, H.E. Kennsy Dwi Ekaningsih, who is an alumnus of the Department of International Relations, Gadjah Mada University. The role of the two ambassadors in facilitating sister city cooperation between the City of Yogyakarta and the City of Hluboka nad Vltavou has exceeded 3 (three) terms of the Mayor and Acting Mayor of Yogyakarta until finally the two cities agreed to officially sign the Letter of Intent (LoI) or Statement of Intent for Cooperation on Monday, May 20, 2024.
The City of Yogyakarta and the City of Hluboka nad Vltavou agreed to establish cooperation in 4 (four) areas, namely: tourism promotion, cultural exchanges and performances, MSME development and education and youth. The two cities are preparing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) scheduled to be signed in 2025.
